Bumi merupakan planet dengan urutan ke 3 dari 9 planet yang dekat dengan matahari.jarak bumi dengan matahari sekitar 150 juta km, berbentuk bulat dengan radius kurang lebih 6.370 km. bumi merupakan satu satunya planet yang dapat di huni oleh berbagai jenis mahluk hidup. permukaan bumi terdiri dari daratan dan lautan. secara struktur, lapisan bumi di bagi menjadi 3 bagian , yaitu sebagai berikut :

1. kerak bumi merupakan kulit bumi bagian luar < permukaan bumi >. tebal lapisan kerak bumi mencapai 70 km dan merupakan lapisan batuan yang terdiri dari batuan- batuan basa dan masam. lapisan ini menjadi tempat tinggal bagi seluruh mahluk hidup. suhu di bagian bawah kerak bumi mencapai 1.100 derajat selsius. lapisan kerak bumi dan bagian di bawahnya hingga kedalaman 100 km dinamakan

2. selimut \ selubung merupakan lapisan yang terletak di bawah lapisan kerak bumi. tebal selimut bumi mencapai 2.900 km dan merupakan lapisan batuan padat mantel bumi adalah batuan yang mengandung silikon, oksigen, dan aluminium. suhu di bagian bawah selimut bumi mencapai 3.000 derajat celsius

3. inti bumi , yang terdiri dari material cair, denga penyusun utama logam besi <90%>, nikel dan lain - lain yang terdapat pada kedalaman 2900-5200km. lapisan ini di bedakan menjadi lapisan inti luar dan lapisan inti dalam. lapisan inti luar tebalnya sekitar2.000km dan terdiri atas besi cair yang suhunya mencapai 2.200derajat selsius.
